What is usage-based pricing?
Usage-based pricing means the price of a software tool depends on how much you use it, measured by a unit such as messages, conversations, resolutions or contacts. You pay more in busy months and less in quiet ones.
Also called: pay-as-you-go pricing, metered pricing, consumption-based pricing.

How usage-based pricing works
- The vendor picks a unit to count: AI conversations, resolved tickets, active contacts or messages.
- You pay per unit, or buy a monthly bundle with a rate for anything above it.
- Many tools combine the meter with a base fee or seat licences, so the bill has more than one moving part.
- The invoice is worked out after the month, from what you actually used.
The trade-off
Paying for what you use sounds fair, and with a small or uneven volume it can be. The hard part is predicting the bill. Support volume goes up exactly when something is happening: a launch, a sale, a delivery delay. Those are the months a metered bill grows.
An example: ManyChat Pro is $39 a month with 2,500 active contacts. If a reel brings in 5,000 contacts, each extra one costs $0.05 and the month comes to $164.
The SimplyBoost approach
Each SimplyBoost plan has a monthly allowance of AI replies, 500 on Starter at €39, 2,000 on Growth at €89 and 6,000 on Pro at €169, and there's no meter running past it. You get an email at 80% and at 100%. If you reach the limit, the agent pauses its replies until the allowance resets, instead of adding charges, and you can upgrade at any time.
Questions people ask
Is usage-based pricing the same as per-resolution pricing?
Per-resolution pricing is one kind of usage-based pricing, where the unit is a resolved conversation. Other kinds count messages, conversations or contacts.
How can I keep a usage-based bill under control?
Look for a usage cap in the billing settings and alerts before you reach it. ManyChat, for example, lets you set a contact limit. A plan with a fixed allowance and no overage avoids the question altogether.
Does SimplyBoost charge for usage?
Only through the plan you choose. Each plan includes a set number of AI replies a month, and going past it never adds charges to your bill.
