How is the engagement rate calculated?

  1. 1

    Add up the interactions

Likes plus comments per post. Add saves and shares if you take them from Insights.

  2. 2

    Divide by followers

That is the rate most tools show. Dividing by the post's reach instead tells you how the people who saw it reacted.

  3. 3

    Times 100

    For example, 120 likes and 15 comments on 5,000 followers: (120 + 15) / 5,000 x 100 = 2.7%.

Price?

Sent you the price and the link in a DM.

Why does the reply rate matter?

Engagement counts how people react to you. The other half is how you react to them: a comment asking for a price or a DM about stock is often the moment someone wants to buy.

  • An answer in seconds keeps the buyer. One the next day often does not.
  • SimplyBoost answers comments and DMs automatically from your own content.
  • It sends your link when someone comments a keyword, and passes the chat to you when a person is needed.

Questions about Instagram engagement rate

Take the average likes and comments of your recent posts, add them up, divide by your followers and multiply by 100. The calculator above does it as you type, and by reach too when you add it.

Yes, for any public account. Note its followers and the likes and comments on its recent posts, and fill in the averages. Saves, shares and reach are only visible to the account itself.

(Likes + comments) / followers x 100, using the averages of your recent posts. Some people add saves and shares, and some divide by reach instead of followers. Use the same formula every time so you can compare.

By followers is the common figure and easy to compare with other accounts. By reach shows how the people who actually saw a post reacted, which is better for judging your own content. The calculator shows both when you add the reach.

It depends on the size of the account and the niche, and published averages differ a lot by source. The most useful comparison is with your own recent posts: work out the rate for each and see which kind of post does best.

In the Instagram app, open a post and tap View insights. Saves, shares and reach are visible there for professional (business and creator) accounts.
