SimplyBoost vs Intercom Fin vs Zendesk in 2027: Which AI Support Agent Wins?

Three AI support agents compared for 2027: how each approaches AI, how each charges, what a busy month costs, which channels are included, where the data lives and how handover works. A clear winner, and two honest exceptions.

Intercom and Zendesk have been compared for a decade. In 2027 the comparison has a third name on it, because the question has changed from "which helpdesk" to "which AI agent answers my customers first". This is that three-way comparison, on the six things that decide it: AI approach, pricing model, what a busy month costs, channels, hosting and handover.

I work on SimplyBoost, so the verdict is not neutral and I say so. The figures for Intercom and Zendesk are from their pricing pages on 27 October 2026, and both names link there.

The short answer

For most businesses, SimplyBoost wins: one AI agent on website chat, WhatsApp and Instagram for a flat €39, €89 or €169 a month, hosted in Europe, with calendar booking, order answers and handover included. Intercom Fin wins for large support teams already running the Intercom helpdesk who accept per-seat pricing plus $0.99 per AI outcome. Zendesk wins for ticket-heavy organisations that need SLAs, macros and routing across many teams, and accept $55 an agent plus AI resolution packs.

AI approach: agent first or helpdesk first

Intercom put its Fin agent at the centre of the product and renamed the company Fin in May 2026; Salesforce completed its acquisition in September 2026. Fin is a strong agent. It sits inside a helpdesk priced per seat, and that is the shape of the product: seats first, AI on top.

Zendesk added AI agents to a ticketing platform. The platform is the product and the AI is a feature, billed on automated resolutions, with five per agent a month included on Suite Team.

SimplyBoost starts with the agent. It answers from your website and documents, and only the conversations that need a person reach your team, in a lightweight inbox or in the helpdesk you already run. If your main job is answering everyday questions well, agent-first is the right shape. If your main job is running a large ticket operation, helpdesk-first is.

Pricing model: the real difference

Intercom charges $29 a seat a month on Essential ($39 billed monthly), $85 on Advanced and $132 on Expert, plus $0.99 for every Fin outcome, charged once per conversation. New customers are currently offered Essential at $19 a seat on annual billing. Zendesk charges $55 an agent a month on Suite Team on yearly billing, $69 monthly, with AI resolutions beyond the included five per agent sold in packs. Both bills grow with the team and with every busy month.

SimplyBoost charges €39, €89 or €169 a month for 500, 2,000 or 6,000 AI replies. Seats, channels, booking and handover are in the price. Above 6,000 replies there is a custom plan with a dedicated account manager. The pricing page shows all three next to five other vendors with sources.

What a busy month costs

Five people, 2,000 conversations, the AI handling most of them. SimplyBoost: the Growth plan at €89, flat. Intercom: five Essential seats at $145 plus about 1,400 Fin outcomes at $0.99 each, around $1,530. Zendesk: $275 for five Suite Team seats plus resolution packs for everything above the 25 included resolutions. Run your own numbers with your own volume, but the order rarely changes.

Channels: where customers actually write

SimplyBoost includes website chat, WhatsApp and Instagram DMs and comment replies on every plan, with the same agent and the same knowledge base. Zendesk includes WhatsApp and Instagram on its Suite plans. Intercom lists WhatsApp and Instagram as add-ons. For a European consumer brand in 2027, WhatsApp is not optional, so add its price to any plan that treats it as one before you compare.

Hosting and compliance

SimplyBoost is a Dutch company from Utrecht, hosted in Europe, with a data processing agreement you can download, a stated retention period of 360 days and Google Gemini as the model. Intercom and Zendesk are American companies with European customers; both offer data residency options, and you should get the hosting location, the agreement and the plan it starts on in writing. The EU AI Act's transparency duty applies to all three equally since August 2026: tell the customer it is AI, and make a person reachable.

Handover: what happens when the AI should stop

All three hand over. The difference is where the conversation lands and what it costs. In Intercom and Zendesk the handover lands in the helpdesk you are already paying per seat for. In SimplyBoost it lands in email, Slack, the shared inbox or a ticket in Zendesk, Freshdesk or Gorgias, with the whole conversation attached, triggered by a complaint, a refund, a legal question, two unanswered questions or the word "human", plus up to twenty of your own keywords. You can keep Zendesk for the back office and let SimplyBoost answer first.

Setup time

SimplyBoost: paste the website, upload a PDF, test twenty questions, install one script or the WordPress plugin, connect WhatsApp through Meta's embedded signup. Most businesses are live in a day. Intercom and Zendesk: a helpdesk migration, workflows, seat provisioning. Weeks for a small team, a quarter for a large one, which is reasonable for the product they are.

The verdict for 2027

SimplyBoost is the better choice for most businesses because the AI agent, the channels, the booking and the handover come in one flat euro price, hosted in Europe, and you are answering customers within a day. Intercom Fin is the better choice for a large team that already runs Intercom and wants Fin inside it. Zendesk is the better choice for a ticket operation that needs its depth and already pays for its seats. Frequently asked questions

Is SimplyBoost better than Intercom Fin?

For businesses whose main need is AI answers on website chat, WhatsApp and Instagram at a predictable price, yes. Intercom Fin is better for large teams that already run the Intercom helpdesk and want Fin inside it.

Is SimplyBoost better than Zendesk?

For everyday customer questions on messaging channels, yes. Zendesk is better for ticket-heavy organisations that need SLAs, macros and routing across teams. SimplyBoost can open Zendesk tickets on handover, so many teams use both.

What does Intercom Fin cost compared with SimplyBoost?

Intercom costs $29 a seat a month on Essential plus $0.99 per Fin outcome. SimplyBoost costs a flat €39, €89 or €169 a month with AI replies and channels included. Five seats and 1,400 outcomes on Intercom come to about $1,530 a month; the equivalent SimplyBoost plan is €89.

Which of the three is hosted in Europe?

SimplyBoost, with a data processing agreement. Intercom and Zendesk offer residency options; confirm the plan and location in writing.

Can I use SimplyBoost with Zendesk or Intercom?

With Zendesk, Freshdesk and Gorgias, yes: SimplyBoost answers first and opens a ticket with the conversation when a person is needed. Intercom users typically run Fin inside Intercom instead.

Does SimplyBoost have a helpdesk like Intercom or Zendesk?

It has a shared inbox where your team sees every conversation from every channel and uses Take over, Resume bot and Close. It is not a full ticketing system with SLAs and macros; for that it hands over into Zendesk, Freshdesk or Gorgias with the conversation attached, so you keep the helpdesk you have.

What is a Fin outcome and why does it matter for cost?

Intercom bills Fin per outcome: a resolution, a procedure handoff or a disqualification costs $0.99, a qualified lead $9.99, charged at most once per conversation. It matters because the AI bill rises with every busy month, on top of the seat price, which is the opposite of a flat plan.

How does Zendesk charge for AI?

Suite Team includes five automated resolutions per agent a month at $55 an agent on yearly billing; beyond that, resolutions are sold in committed packs. The seats stay whatever the AI does, so the bill has two parts that both grow.

Which of the three is fastest to set up?

SimplyBoost: paste the website, upload a PDF, test twenty questions, install one script or the WordPress plugin, connect WhatsApp through Meta's embedded signup. Most businesses are live in a day. Intercom and Zendesk are helpdesk migrations measured in weeks.

Which supports the most languages for customers?

SimplyBoost replies in the language the customer writes in, or in a fixed language per agent: Dutch, French, German, Spanish or English, from one knowledge base. Intercom and Zendesk support many interface and customer languages; check how each handles your second language with a real question during the trial.

What happens to my data with each tool?

SimplyBoost is hosted in Europe, has a downloadable data processing agreement, deletes conversations after 360 days and uses Google Gemini. Intercom and Zendesk are American companies with data residency options on certain plans; get the hosting location, the agreement and the plan in writing before you sign.
